Congressman Maurice Hinchey with First-Time Homebuyer
Kris Lupino and her daughter Stella
Kingston, NY -- 2/2/2010 — Today, Congressman Maurice Hinchey called on President Obama and Congress to extend the $8,000 federal tax credit for first time homebuyers and the new $6,500 federal tax credit for homeowners in their current residence for at least 5 years when they need to sell and buy a different home. At a press conference in Kingston, Hinchey introduced Marc and Kris Lupino and their twin children, who became first time homebuyers in September with the help of RUPCO’s NeighborWorks HomeOwnership Center® Hinchey said there has been a steady decline in the number of homes sold in Ulster County in the last 5 years and noted the housing market is still very fragile. He lauded RUPCO’s work in homebuyer education, First-Time Home Buyers Club and in helping new homeowners do repairs needed before they can move in. See Mr. Hinchey’s press release outlining the issues of concern.
