Kingston, NY -- 4/30/2009 — Rural Ulster Preservation Company (RUPCO) Executive Director Kevin O’Connor announced this week that Joan Lawrence-Bauer has joined the organization’s staff as Director of Communication and Resource Development. In that capacity, Lawrence-Bauer will take a leadership role in both internal and external communication with all agency stakeholder groups. She will also help develop new resources and partnerships for the 30-year-old housing and community development agency.

“Joan brings a unique combination of experience and enthusiasm to RUPCO,” said O’Connor in making the announcement. “Her energy level is legendary and her widely varied background is ideally suited to our needs. We are very happy she agreed to join our team.” O’Connor said Lawrence-Bauer will develop content for all traditional media outlets and will also involve RUPCO more in new-media and social networking initiatives of the electronic age. “RUPCO is a multi-faceted organization with five unique business lines and stakeholder groups ranging from more than 2000 individuals served, local contractors doing rehabilitation projects, and business owners who need a stable housing market for their employees. It’s a complex story to tell and we know Joan will help streamline those efforts.”

Lawrence-Bauer is a past Board Chair of the Ulster County Chamber of Commerce and former member of the Ulster County Development Corporation Board and of the Delaware County Industrial Development Agency. She has spent more than 30 years in business development, management and communication, working in the for-profit, not-for-profit and government sectors, including four years of service for the Kingston Housing Authority and four years of service with the MARK Group in Margaretville where she is currently a member of the Margaretville Hospital Board of Directors. She has also been an adjunct lecturer at SUNY Ulster and at SUNY New Paltz where she is a member of the Business Advisory Council for the School of Business and was named to the school’s Hall of Fame in 2004.

The Rural Ulster Preservation Company develops, implements and supports affordable housing and housing choice opportunities for residents of Ulster County and is a leading agency in the field of housing and community development. RUPCO takes a broad approach to housing and community development and creates employment for more than 30 staffers and project work for as many as 70 contractors each year.
