Kingston, NY -- 8/18/2009 — Renters hoping to become homebuyers this year will get a leg up on the process in a series of classes designed to help them understand the ins and outs of buying, owning and maintaining a home. Rural Ulster Preservation Company (RUPCO) is sponsoring First Time Homebuyer Education Classes at the Ellenville Public Library on three Saturdays - September 12th, 19th and the 26th from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Residents will learn about a wide variety of different programs to assist first time home buyers with credit report reviews, one on one counseling, match savings, and grants for income eligible buyers.

The classes are designed to educate and prepare first time homebuyers in Ulster County. Different topics will be taught by professionals in the homebuyer field and cover: Financing a Home, Finding a Home, Legal Aspects of Home Purchasing, Home Inspections, and Maintaining a Home and Finances. Attendees will learn that even in a difficult housing market, it is possible to overcome obstacles to homeownership.

Homeownership training is open to anyone interested in learning about owning and maintaining a home. There are no income limitations to qualify for the First Time Homebuyer Education Classes and the cost for the series is $50 per household. As part of the class fee, each participant will meet with a HUD Certified Homeownership Counselor to review their individual file and receive a personalized homeownership assessment. Attendees should plan to bring a bag lunch. There are no child care provisions on site so only adults should attend.

Seating is limited. Registration is required and available by calling Laura Petit at the RUPCO NeighborWorks HomeOwnership Center at (845) 331-9860 or by e-mail at lpetit@rupco.org.
