Rural Ulster Preservation Company (RUPCO) and Kingston Mayor James Sottile hosted a ground breaking ceremony on Tuesday, November 21, 2006, at 10 am, at 97 Clinton Avenue, Kingston.

RUPCO purchased the vacant property at 97-101 Clinton Avenue through a partnership with the City of Kingston. The property was built in 1885 and is a 4000 sq ft Calvert Vaux inspired turn of the century gothic revival country home. This two story building originally served as a single family residence. Over the years 97 Clinton Avenue served as a nursing home, a half way house, and most recently served as a boarding home. Despite changing hands numerous times, including being purchased by private developers, this property has been left to deteriorate.

Funding for this project is made possible through grant awards from HOME $120,000, City of Kingston CDBG $162,500, NeighborWorks America $20,000, and the Community Preservation Corporation $525,000.

“We are so pleased to be partnering with the City of Kingston to revitalize this tired corner.” states Kevin O’Connor, Executive Director of RUPCO. “It is our hope that the renovation of this building and bringing homeownership to the neighborhood will assist in revitalizing this area.”

The construction phase has begun and construction is anticipated to be complete in the early summer 2007. This property will offer 4 condominiums for purchase to first time homebuyers, with an annual income of 80% or below the Area Median Income (AMI).
