Our excellence in community rehabilitation speaks for itself in
the rehabilitation of the Stuyvesant Hotel, located in the heart
of the historic stockade district, on the corners of Fair and John
Streets in Kingston. The structure, which had been vacant for over
ten years, was in severe disrepair. Acquired by in 1991, the Stuyvesant
Hotel was restored to its original grandeur in 1993, serving as
a pioneer in the revitalization of the Fair Street neighborhood.
The restored Stuyvesant Hotel won architectural awards from The
American Institute of Architects Westchester/Mid-Hudson Chapter,
First Honor Award, New York State Association of Architects/The
American Institute of Architecture for design excellence, the 1993
Affordable Housing Award and has graced the covers of numerous community
preservation publications since it’s restoration.
The Stuyvesant Hotel offers forty one bedroom units for senior
and/or disabled adults. Twelve of the forty units have been designated
for homeless housing. Sixteen units are allocated for clients of
Gateway Supported Housing. The uptown location offers the convenience
of shopping, restaurants, museums, banking, and county offices within
walking distance. City of Kingston Transit buses provide a bus stop
at your doorstep on Fair Street.
Also located within the Stuyvesant building are the offices for
Rural Ulster Preservation Company, and Portobello Restaurant.
