Rental Assistance: Family Self Sufficiency Program

RUPCO’s Family Self Sufficiency Program (FSS) Program assists individuals and families, who are receiving Housing Choice Voucher (Section 8) rental assistance, to secure the resources they need to achieve economic self-sufficiency. The Family Self-Sufficiency Coordinator meets on a regular basis with participants to help them establish goals to overcome barriers. Families are connected to resources that can assist them in locating scholarships to colleges and training programs, budgeting, job training, childcare, health services, and counseling. As families increase their income, money is set-aside in an escrow account. When they graduate from the FSS program and achieve self-sufficiency, they are provided with the money from the account. These funds may be used as the family sees fit to help make the dream of homeownership a reality or establish an investment in their future.

The FSS Program began in 1998, since that time we have celebrated the success of 24 graduates. Several of the graduates were able to purchase a home, further their education, and several were able to give up their rental assistance.

For more information about the FSS Program, contact Sierra Smith, FSS Coordinator at 845.331.2140, ext. 312 or at ssmith@rupco.org. When e-mailing please remember to include your daytime telephone number.
